Heart of Dracula by Kathryn Ann Kingsley
4.0
"with no other warning, the fist met her temple."
So... he punched her. Just say that.
I enjoyed this story. I didn't find Dracula bleak, nor did I find Maxine a driveling mess. My only issue is the unnecessary use of filler words. So many filler words like the aforementioned. The entire book is riddled with them and it really interrupts the flow of the story, like a random fuckin speed bump you didn't see as you were hauling across the page.
When homie got mad, his eyes turned red "from lid to lid." We are reminded of this each and every time his angy eyes are described. Listen, that's cool and all, but like, I get it. I know they are ENTIRELY red. I learned this the first time, now just lemme know when they go back to normal. You don't have to keep reminding the reader that Dracula's got his angy eyes on.
Either way, good story.
