I really didn’t know how to feel about the start of this book - it wasn’t at all what I was expecting that’s for sure. But by the time I finished it, I enjoyed it enough to want to read the sequel.
There are definitely a couple of scenes that seem unnecessarily violent (one in particular that feels very unnecessarily sexually violent - and this is coming from someone who loves the horror genre) so 110% check the trigger warnings for this.
In the end, I loved the spooky university, cult, rich prejudice vs low-middle class, Illuminati vibes with a cool main character, a unique concept, and loads of suspense, mystery and world building(?).
But didn’t love the sexual violence (some of it fair enough for the plot, some of it not), and that I wasn’t mentally prepared for how f*cked up some scenes/concepts are.
Would I recommend it? For just the right person, yes.
