The Gifted Adult: A Revolutionary Guide for Liberating Everyday Genius by Mary-Elaine Jacobsen

adventurous informative inspiring slow-paced

2.0

This book randomly got Jesusy at hour 9 of 17 of the audiobook. Shame, because it was really helpful up to that point as someone who grew up in gifted programs but never considered giftedness could have any bearing on my adult life. I was getting some vague Christian vibes throughout, but what really put me off was the almost-prayer she included in the text... Yikes.

Edit: I went back and finished this and while the first half was really helpful, I can't help but wish her editor had cut some of the religious stuff out, as it really narrows her audience. It was very heteronormative, implying sex is something that's required for a good relationship (which totally discounts the existence of asexuals). I'm adopting a "take what you need and leave the rest" approach for this book. Some googling led me to other books on adult giftedness, and I'll be checking out some that hopefully have less of a religious bias.
