Ballad of Sword and Wine: Qiang Jin Jiu (Novel) Vol. 1
by Tang Jiu Qing
The political intrigue of this was DELECTABLE. I love seeing a good chessboard of characters maneuver around like this, and I'm especially a fan of two youngsters starting off as talented (and lucky) pawns that grow into these scheming players themselves. As much as I was kicking my feet over their gay shenanigans, this was much heavier on the plot and story, and character development was tantalizingly woven in between this careful stage setting instead of making their budding relationship the focal point. Big shoutout to the two roof guards who absolutely shipped the hell out of the leads though. I'm very invested in where all this politicking goes and what it will eventually mean for Shen Zechuan and Xiao Chiye.
