On this third reading, I can only say that this is one of the best books I've ever read. I fell in love with all the characters, again.
My favourite characters are STILL...Kaladin and Dalinar. Great story arcs and the struggles that these two men went through was brutal, but also impowering.
Shallan, on this third reading...is a LOT more beloved, and I cannot wait to read Words of Radiance, where I remember...she shines.
Overall, this is such a great book, that on each successive reading, gets better and better.
BTW, it took three days for this reread (Nov. 19 to 21st).
REREAD - This is an amazing book and start to an EPIC tale by a master of Science Fiction & Fantasy. Brandon Sanderson is the G.O.A.T.
I read this book within THREE days. It was like a #StormlightArchive IV Drip.
ORIGINAL READ - WOW! I have read this book within 5 days. I am floored. It is SO intense, that I will have to read it again (and again...and again) to gain the full meaning of what I just read. I will move forward with Words of Radiance (before a reread of The Way of Kings). I will need more context to glean more understanding.
My favorite character was Kaladin. I felt for him. He lost so much. Continued to lose SO much, that how could you not love him.
Dalinar is my second favorite. I understand his motivations the best (being of a similar age - 54 years old). I could see he was doing his best, though I often would argue with him, wishing he would do things differently. His character arc is amazing, too. He is truly an honorable man. Period.
Shallan was my least favorite character, but that does not mean that I didn't enjoy her arc. I was constantly arguing with her. I felt her motivations were good, but her actions were ill conceived. I like where it ended, but I want to understand her better.
I do not know if the second book will carry these same characters forward, but I am hoping so.
The Radiance. Very interesting.
Thank you Brandon Sanderson. I now understand why SO many people say that the #StormlightArchive is their favorite series that you have written. I still hold #Mistborn higher (though it is because I have read them all...and am anxious to read more...soon, hopefully).
