Good Morning, Monster: A Therapist Shares Five Heroic Stories of Emotional Recovery by Catherine Gildiner
5.0
Catherine Gildiner recounts the stories of 5 of her most courageous and resilient patients. She spent years working with each one to help them overcome deep childhood traumas and learn to better relate to others and be able to put words to their emotions (or dig them out of where they had been stuffed down). These stories are really hard to read as lots of trigger warnings: child abuse, emotional abuse, cultural genocide, suicide, abandonment, addiction. What is striking is how far each of these individuals came in the therapy. Catherine has also written three other books covering her own childhood traumas which I'm putting on my TBR right now! Despite the horrific experiences, Catherine focuses on strength, growth and inspiration. Better than I expected it to be by a mile - highly recommend.
