The best thing about this book is it's cover, I'm afraid...
Maybe it simply wasn't for me, but the writing didn't allow me to connect with the characters at all. The story dragged on forever, was predictable from the start, and I couldn't get myself to feel sorry for the characters despite their hardships. The nicknames, the overuse of the phrase "due to", and the colloquial style distracted me and made the whole experience unenjoyable to me. It might enhance the audiobook experience, and give an authentic vibe to the characters, but for a paperback read, it made it hard to follow.
I did have a soft spot for Tommy, but all the other characters were either insufferable, flat or just plain idiotic. Overall, not a book I'd recommend, although I really wanted to like it, and the blurb made me think the story would be exactly my style.
