This is a very imaginative story about a people of phoenixes living in a dying world, an arctic wasteland with a dying sun. There is good world building & character development. There is mystery, as you aren't always sure who is the bad guy, but there are also some wonderful people that you always know are good.
This story is an identity & healing journey for Mara who discovers a beauty in her world that she was told had died. She discovers a beauty and strength in herself when she knows who she is and refuses to be anything else.
This book is the first in a series and is definitely a cliff hanger. The main character does end on a good note, but with lots of loose ends to the story. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.
