baldwin is someone when reading the introduction i saw myself in. david is a character that the audience feels bad about it but should see themselves in. he is someone who rejects himself so deeply that he cannot even discover the true nature of his attraction. often when his relationships become too serious he begins to resent his partner suddenly leaving them. he always regrets it he always seemingly fails to understand why he is alone. i think there is an acceptance in the ending, i think his relationship ending the way it did with hella decides something for him. david is me even if i don’t want to be, i think david is all of us, desiring to push others away for comfort and failing to understand the consequences of it.
