Reckless
by Selena Montgomery
I went into this book thinking it was simply a contemporary romance, but it was so much more than that. It was part murder mystery, part police procedural, and yes, the romance was a major factor to the story line as well. I really enjoyed the characters in this book but felt the romance was a bit contrived. Still, though, I found it really entertaining and I was fully invested in the story. There are layers of complexity to the plot, so it isn't just a basic formulaic story. Unfortunately, the ending was completely unsatisfying. I was enjoying where the story was going so I glanced down expecting about an hour left in the book and was dismayed to see only three minutes remaining. The cliffhanger is huge and the story is so unfinished! Please, Stacey Abrams, I know you're doing amazing things in your various political offices and campaigns, but I'm going to need you to WRITE MORE BOOKS. I'll read the second book in the series, but it follows another character mentioned in the first book, so while it will not further the story as much as fill in gaps from another perspective, it will at least take place in the same universe and should ultimately lead toward the end goal.
