Sadly, I had to dock a quarter of a point because Cassie, who should know better, refers to snakes as "poisonous".

Anyway, I enjoyed this book more now as an adult than I did as a child, though it still feels a bit like filler. Also, I find the encounter with the indigenous tribe to just be weird. Idk if it's problematicâ„¢, but it's weird.

We get some good insights into Jake's character and an introduction to one of the many ways Animorphs will invoke the "someone died but then turns out no they didn't" scifi thing; we learn Marco can speak maybe 50 words of Spanish; and there are a lot of lines that can be read as foreshadowing to the events of book 54. Unsure if that was intentional, but it was neat.

Oh, and Tobias says "Exactamundo" because this was the '90s.
