Ghosts of Manhattan by Douglas Brunt

4.0

Four stars might be a little much but I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this book, and here's (part of the reason) why: the blurb on the back was so not indicative of the actual story that I thought I might be reading magical realism, which I do not appreciate. But after I picked the galley up about 15 times I figured well what the hell - I'm so glad I did. So the four stars is perhaps a sign of my relief more than anything else.

This book reminded me of everything I love about Jay McInerney - straightforward, men blustering in and making mistakes in the same of money, greed, and sex, but with the hope of redemption. Next time, blurb writer for Touchstone, leave the "apocalyptic prognostications" out of it.
