T. Kingfisher is quickly becoming my favorite author. I absolutely adored Swordheart with its cast of quirky characters and a story that you can immerse yourself in. I love that the characters are all adults, like everyone is above 30, and they’re still learning and fighting but in a realistic sense, and they’re also experiencing things that adults would (age, not being magically perfect or beautiful, not wanting to risk having children, and how to hide bodies with your local rat god priest). I listened to the audiobook edition and the narration was wonderful too!
Graphic: Death, Self harm, Suicide, Toxic relationship, Murder, Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Confinement, Sexual content, Suicidal thoughts, Suicide attempt
Minor: Animal death, Body horror, Chronic illness, Blood, Kidnapping, War
On warnings: the toxic relationship is between Halla and her extended family who really sucks
On animals: there are two mentioned gruesome animal deaths, it was a deer and a rabbit, and they were set upon by some freaky ass monsters in the magical woods. That’s where the body horror tag is being applied too, because the monsters sort of encase the animals.
