The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

4.0

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches is an adult fantasy novel about a lonely witch who takes on a job teaching three children to control their magic. The magic is fairy tale fun, with spells, potions, and stardust. The prose is light-hearted, even while the story touches on serious social issues. The protagonist is charming, bubbly and warm in contrast to her grumpy love interest. All of the characters are unique in personality and quirks. The reveal at the end consists of a normally unrealistic trope that is passable. Overall, the story is whimsical and ends on a positive note.
