Resurrection by Leo Tolstoy

The two sides, one being virtue as outlined by religion and internal moral code and the other the concept of a marginalized existence that makes everything you do perceived as criminal have a hard time battling it out in his head I feel. The imagery was very nicely constructed, and the beurocracy hell of the prison, legal technicalities, and incarceration system was also described in a way that to me was very visceral in its going-around-in-a-circle endless tedium, if that makes sense.
