In the beginning, I thought it was going to be a fairly straightforward love story, or rather a love triangle, but towards the end the plot thickened and it suddenly became much more interesting, perhaps even verging on a thriller in style. Before that, the reader was mainly kept going by the interesting characters and the faintly comic setting of Randstat people trying to settle in the countryside (assuming you're not a reader that finds love triangles in themselves enough).
The book was quite easy to read, but also had a lot of words that I needed to look up as I was either not sure of the precise meaning, or I had never heard of them. Apparently, those words were mostly somewhat old-fashioned.
Anyway, an interesting mix of genres, worth reading.
