All in all I enjoyed reading Shy Girl, but I was never compelled by it and I think it was because the author's style didn't impart a real feeling of stakes.

The single chapters for entire years fell flat for me, since rather than conveying the repetitive mundane routine Gia experienced, it came across as her being emotionally rather unaffected by the length of her captivity.
