A Little Daylight Left: Poems
by Sarah Kay
I think at this point I can soundly say that Sarah Kay is my favorite poet. I already loved her spoken word performances, so reading this collection it was easy to hear every poem in her voice. She paints such vivid pictures with her words, and I love the thematic details she threads from one piece to the next. Then of course there are lines that just blindside me, like: "I'm not an optimist, but I play one in the group chat." Like, DAMN. Way to call us out here, Sarah. (One of the poems goes into detail about using the royal "we" and I will be thinking about that poem for a looooong time.)
