They Found Him Dead by Georgette Heyer

3.0

Not Heyer's best mystery but IMMENSELY entertaining thanks to its fantastic cast of characters.

The real shame is that the sensible-practical young woman character had a great chance of being the real murderer but didn't turn out to be. I thought she might be the Australian relative due to inherit if the third heir were successfully murdered. She had access to push the first person off a cliff (after all, she lived with him, she knew his walk routine, and he wouldn't have suspected her until it was too late), then she established an alibi for the second murder by being in the hall with witnesses when the firecracker faked the gunshot, and she was always conveniently present whenever one Jim's vehicles showed signs of sabotage. So... yes, part of me was hoping Heyer would pull a fast one and make her the hidden villain.
