Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men
by Caroline Criado Pérez
After finishing this I think I’ll have the term “Sex-disaggregated data” seared into my brain for the rest of my life. The amount of figures and evidence that Criado-Perez collected and presented in this book is staggering and impressive, and this easily takes the cake as the most times I’ve read “%” in a month.
I’m grateful to have been gifted a copy that included the epilogue; while reading I became increasingly curious about the author’s opinion on the pandemic, specifically in regards to its effect on the female population (obviously). While she does dive in to the basics, I look forward to the possibility of her exploring this topic in a new book sometime in the future.
This is the first time I’ve encountered both the name “danah boyd”and the concept of choosing to spell your name in all lowercase for aesthetic purposes. Cannot say that I’m a fan.
Felt a little TERFy at times but never so blatant that I felt the need to deduct a star for it.
