This is a difficult book to review. In many ways I disliked it, the subject is so horrifying and brutal it was a struggle to read. However, the writing was incredible and the raw pain so well expressed that you can’t deny it is an exceptional work. Not a light read, not for the faint of heart, and while there are glimpses of strength and tenacity, it was not ultimately a story of hope.
