This book was just as powerful the second time through. I read the book more slowly this time, because I set up a readalong for it and paused after every chapter to reflect and think of something meaningful to say. Last time I read this in a couple of days, because as much as I wanted to read it slowly and savor it, I just couldn't put it down. I happened to be listening to The New Jim Crow while I was reading this book, and that added another dimension to the experience as well. Reading a collection of achingly beautiful vignettes of people impacted by the topics in that book really drove home the messaging of both books in a unique way. I'm sure this will not be the last time that I read this book, it really is one of my favorites.
