To Shape a Dragon's Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose

Did not finish book. Stopped at 43%.
The premise is phenomenal and the opening chapters matched my expectations. Anequs is a 15-year old indigenous girl who lives on a remote island. She finds a dragon egg and bonds with the hatchling, something that hasn't happened in years due to the disappearance of dragons in her part of the world. Because there is no one on her island to teach her how to raise a dragon, she enrolls for an Anglish Dragon Academy, where she has to deal with racism and how to uphold her integrity and values in a world that doesn't recognize her humanity. Unfortunately, the dragon academy chapters really dragged on. We got full professor lectures as Anequs goes from class to class and very little plot or character development. I began to lose interest despite how hooked I was from the start. I think that a really good editor could have unlocked the clear potential this book had to be absolutely brilliant because it unfortunately gets really bogged down in the details of dragon school and the pacing and excitement from the beginning disappears. I decided I got the gist of it and wasn't invested enough to finish.
