I enjoyed this book a lot. At first, I wondered whether the two timelines had been necessary at all, but I just became so used to it and it did feel like it made sense after all towards the end.
Things I really liked about this book:
- How Stivers used each timeline for a different writing voice, like in one it was all fancy words/adult/science talk, etc. whereas in the other you follow children and the language becomes much easier. It was refreshing.
- How motherhood is explored between an AI and a child as we know it
- The setup! Not always is it shown how the world we read about gotten like this, and if it's mostly through flashbacks. In this book, you read it as separate chapters. Even though, I asked myself in the beginning of this book whether this is necessary, I came to enjoy this set up and type of structure a lot.
