How Zoe Made Her Dreams (Mostly) Come True by Sarah Strohmeyer

I just.... That was so adorable.

I really loved How Zoe Made Her Dreams (Mostly) Come True by Sarah Strohmeyer. I liked it more than I was expecting, honestly, after I was unable to get more than a handful of pages into Smart Girls Get What They Want.

I don’t think I’ve read a book quite like HZMHD(M)CT before. The story was charged with drama but still managed to hang onto its funny and ultimately feel-good plot line. Sure, sometimes the events felt too good to be true, but I think it pushed the story forward and really made it seem like a fairytale. That’s not to say it was unrealistic. In fact the dynamic between the characters was so great. There was a lot of competition in Fairyland and it was written brilliantly. I could see all of it happening.

The characters, for the most part, were likable and very relatable. From the very beginning I knew exactly who I was on board with and who I didn’t like. As mentioned before, there was a ton of competition all over the place throughout the book. It was wonderful to see everyone in that situation. Obviously it’s not like The Hunger Games, but in some ways it was just as brutal. It was so nice to read something like that where there’s a lot at stake but on a more “domestic” level. It was super interesting just to see how all these teenagers acted and what they would do to get what they want. I really enjoyed it.

While I was reading I had absolutely no idea how everything was going to wrap up and end and, to be completely honest, I can’t say I saw it coming. I loved everything about the ending. Is it likely? I’m not so sure about that, but it made me feel good and boosted my feelings for the book substantially. I wish I could wipe my memories and read it again.

How Zoe Made Her Dreams (Mostly) Come True was a quick, feel-good novel with a lot of charm. It’s perfect for a lazy day or as a rebound after a particularly hard book. If contemporary is your thing I urge you to read this one. I loved it. Maybe you will too.
