Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Originally from Oh, Read it in a Day Reviews

Out of all four books that I’ve reviewed for Rainbow’s Month of Books, this has been the hardest.

You see, Fangirl is my absolute favorite. Cath and Levi and Wren and Reagan and Nick and all of them! My love for this book knows no bounds and I just can’t sum it up into words. Here’s my lousy attempt: (Seriously, I can’t do this book justice.)

I initially read Fangirl to see what all the hype was about. People kept talking about it and I couldn’t understand why this book was so popular, even though it had come out only a couple weeks before.

And then I read it.

And.

Oh.

My.

God.

I don’t just love Fangirl, I adore it. It’s the book I relate to the most. If I had to pick a favorite book, a book that has impacted me the most, I’d pick this one, hands down. (At least in the YA genre, because, come on, I can’t just pick one favorite book)

Cath is starting her first year of college. For the first time in her entire life, she won’t be sharing a room with her twin, Wren. Even though they’re pretty much opposites-Wren being the super social one, and Cath being the quiet, shy, introverted one-sharing a room has worked for them for 18 years, why change it now?

Now Cath needs to navigate college by herself. It’s terrifying. She’d much rather stay in bed and write fan fiction.

But this is college, you can’t really do that. Can Cath come out of her shell for her writing? For love?

Cath’s sometimes not so logical logic reminds me of my own, which I guess is why I love her so much. Cath is so shy and charming.

And basically all the characters are spot on. Wren and her similarity and differences to Cath. Reagan with her stark differences. Levi and his smiley personality. Nick and his sophistication. Every single person in this book is absolutely perfect.

THIS BOOK IS PERFECT OKAY IT JUST IS. THERE’S NO OTHER WAY TO EXPLAIN IT OTHER THAN IT’S PERFECT AND YOU NEED TO READ IT NOW.

*Note: I am so excited to be in the UK when the special, hardcover, pink with yellow ribbon edition of Fangirl comes out. You know I’m totally getting it.
