Marcelo in the Real World by Francisco X. Stork

4.0

I would have given this five stars if there hadn't been foul language. I guess some people use the f-word very casually. This book reminded me of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time (or close to that title). It is told in first person by a semi-autistic young man who goes to work at his father's law firm mail room to fulfill his father's fantasy of Marcelo working "in the real world" as opposed to his fantasy school for the differently abled. I loved the peeks into the thoughts of Marcelo. The story itself was good, but his personal journey was what the book was truly about. I would recommend this to older teens with the caveat that there is some language.
