Perversion
by T.M. Frazier
This book was dramatic and angsty and I’m here for it. I have been on a real dark romance kick lately, and this one fit the bill. But I have a few major points that took away from my overall enjoyment of the book. The first one is the age of the main characters. Now, I get that to make some of the plot points work, their ages are important. However, I feel a bit uncomfortable with the sexual scenes given that one of the main characters is underage. Again, I understand from a plot perspective why she needed to be so young, but a bit squicky for me.
The second thing that bothered me was the basis of the relationship between MCs. They basically meet once, for like 10 minutes and then have a few letters back and forth, until they meet again 5 years later. I get that short connections can still be pretty meaningful, but that hardly seems like the basis for the love that FMC talks about. Usually I’m okay with a bit of insta-love/lust, but I guess not in this moment. I think it’s different because it was setup initially it seemed with more emotional focus, but that wasn’t really built on a whole later on...? Which is different from other insta-lust because they are typically smut from the get-go. I’m not sure, but it just missed the mark for me.
I kinda saw the plot twist at the end coming, but I am looking forward to seeing how things play out in book two.
