This was the first book in the Coffeehouse Mystery series I have read. It wasn't until I started it I realized it was the seventh in the series. Oh well, it was still real good and I enjoyed it!
For anyone wondering, I don't think you necessarily have to have read the previous 6 to understand what is going on, but it is helpful. I honestly love book series like that!
Anyway, I enjoyed meeting Clare, the fiesty, intelligent coffeehouse manager and unofficial detective. I really like that her character is honest, devoted and caring to those around her. I think that is what makes her and the story so captivating, hooking the reader.
In this story, which takes place over the course of about 6 days, Clare and all the characters are preparing for her ex-husband's big, lavish wedding. The first murder is of a stripper from Matteo's bachelor party who is a hired look alike of his fiancé, Breanne. Then there is the murder of Breanne's assistant as well as attempted murder on Clare. Clare spends a majority of the story trying to help her detective boyfriend and the other police solve these murders. This part of the story was definitely intriguing and kept me reading on guessing who done it. I am definitely giving this part of the story a 4!
What I do not understand was why Roman Brio, who seemed like an excellent character, kind of dropped off the face of the plot after a few chapters? It seemed he was good friends with Breanne and Clare, so I don't understand why he wasn't mentioned again? That was a bit disappointing, to be honest. I was also disappointed by Breanne. I am not sure if the author intentionally did this with the character, but why was Breanne acting like an ungrateful, spoiled brat after Clare saves her life twice? Quite frankly, this made me dislike her greatly, at least until the very end.
But what a great story! I really enjoyed it! I do think at some point, I will go read other books in the series. I would definitely recommend!
