Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett

3.0

This book was part of my office book club--- and I wanted to read it because I have always wanted to jump into the world of Terry Pratchett....and finally had the opportunity to with a colleague who is a big fan and knows a lot.
The story is absurd, but I really enjoyed it....it just never seemed to end and that got to be a bit too repetitive. This is the story of a girl who dresses up as a boy to join the war....a war that isn't being fought for what she thinks it is being fought for....because she wants to track down her missing brother. Instead she falls in with a group of soldiers who are all there for different reasons, none of which is to fight a war--- and they manage to (much to the chagrin of their leader, and also the other side) win battles and get through the obstacles set in front of them. This book took me a while to get through as I was a bit tired of the story, but it was fun and I really enjoyed the writing and ridiculousness.
Read: If you don't know Terry Pratchett and want a glimpse into his world to see if it is worth the full cannonball.
