The Inventor's Secret
by Chad Morris
Another fun YA fantasy. Twins Abby and Derek Cragbridge are incoming 7th graders at Cragbridge Hall, a boarding school, in 2074. Their grandfather invented much of the technology that the school uses in their teaching methods. And the tech is pretty impressive. A machine that makes past events appear around the user - great for learning history. A machine that displays the user's thoughts - great for literature. Avatars for animal studies, and more. But there's one invention grandpa has been keeping secret, and when both he and the twins' parents are kidnapped, Abby and Derek must solve a series of clues to save them.
Things I loved: the technology and the information about actual historical events woven through the book
Thing I didn't love: the bullying. While I know to some extent bullying will always happen, I was disappointed in how the school/adult characters handled it.
