3.75 stars, almost a 4 star for me! I think that this being Courtney Whims’s first novel, she did a wonderful job. I really enjoyed this book. I love Kat, the FMC, and how her character develops. The author did very well showing her tragedies and obstacles that she has to overcome. My favorite scenes have to be the ones with Kat and Daeja, her dragon. I will say, I hope we get a little bit more information on the dragons and what type of dragon Daeja is in the next book. Is she a special breed and why didn’t Kat’s father have any knowledge of her?
The author’s world building was definitely on point, I do think there were small plot holes that needed to be addressed. I didn’t feel Kat’s sense of urgency to get to the Dragon Lands, especially after she got reunited with Cole, her childhood best friend and boyfriend. I do also hope we get a little more context on the bond between Kat and Daeja, I felt as if it wasn’t explored enough. I also hope we get a little bit more knowledge on Kat’s parents and their background. How they came to know each other?
Overall, I think the best books in a series like this leaves you with questions that make you eager to read the next book and get the answers to. Throughout the book, I was very intrigued about the other love interest, Darian and even more so after Whims left us with that cliffhanger! I can’t wait to read the second book and see what the author has up her sleeve!
