The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie
by Alan Bradley
For those who have trouble with the basic premise that this story is told from the viewpoint of an 11 year-old, pshaw! The plotting is fun, the words are lovely, and the smile on my face is proof that this story is entertaining. If you truly have trouble with her age, imagine that the story is one of the memoirs written by Flavia as an older woman looking back on her life--a bit of creative non-fiction fiction if you will.
