The Last Human by Lee Bacon

5.0

XR_935 knows what it’s purpose is. He is to help build solar panels. Every day he unplugs himself and goes to work. Then he goes home and plugs himself in and repeats. That is, until he is faced with a creature he thought was long extinct, a human.

This was an amazing book. I wish I could have read this book when I was 12 or younger. This story is told from a robots perspective and you get to see what it may be like inside of a robots “brain”. I didn’t want to stop reading this book and it has been a while since a book has captivated me like this.

Parents or educators, I would highly highly recommend this book to any children or students you know aged 7-12. The main character XR_935 is a 12 year old robot and the girl he meets, Emma, is a 12 year old girl. The journey this robot, girl, and some robot friends take is full of wonder. The robots almost seem to have emotions, but they were not programmed with them.

I’m sad to say that diversity isn’t shown in this book. I wish I could say there was, but Emma was pictured as white on the cover of this book and no characters other Bryan white are mentioned.
