That Potent Alchemy by Tess Bowery
3.0

Cute and steamy. It's clear that the author has put a lot of research into the lives of London performers, and the story is lovingly crafted. The characterization did feel a little strained, and the emotions needed to push the plot along sometimes seemed artificial and jarring. Like they didn't quite develop naturally from the characters themselves.

But if you want a sweet, sexy tale with a strong sense of place (at least as far as the world of theatre is concerned) where a dark-skinned Black woman gets to be admired, seduced, and protected, this is a great one. You might even learn something and get more interested in the time period - I know I did!
