Audible read, good voice acting.
I have pretty mixed feelings on this one, on one hand I almost DNF it but on the other hand I'm glad I didn't.
I love anything to do with hot pirates doing bad shit for half assed/good reasons. I am a one piece & Pirates of the Caribbean girlie. My favorite characters are judith & helen because how adorable yet real they felt. I could definitely see myself hanging out with them fr.
Due to a combination of the the slow pacing, repetitive actions & stupidity, it took me forever to start liking our main duo. Em's seemingly blatant stupidity at understanding basic human interactions and her own emotions irritated me to no end until we learn why she doesn't understand how to process certain information or emotions. I think that definitely should have been introduced a bit sooner so I could feel more empathy towards her. Maria was perfect except for the way she repeats her favorite phrases so much that they start to lose weight. I feel like it would have been stronger if she showed who she was via her actions vs. words that she never stuck to anyway. It felt more like she was trying to convince herself that she was big & bad rather than just being that. She humanizes herself enough in the little in between moments that I don't think, the other stuff was really necessary.

Overall I enjoyed this read, although I hope that if a sequel comes out that it brings us more into ems side of things even through marias pov if possible. I want to know more about how magic, dragons and the island works here. I would also love to see them blossom into a healthier relationship.
