Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover
4.0

Release Date: August 10, 2012
Genre: New Adult Romance
Series: Slammed #2 (should be read in order)
Actual Rating: 4.5 stars

Point of Retreat is a great followup to [b:Slammed|30333938|Slammed (Slammed, #1)|Colleen Hoover|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1464826448l/30333938._SY75_.jpg|18602144]. While I don't think this book was necessary for Layken and Will's story (Slammed could have been perfect on it's own) it was nice to catch up with them again. I also really loved the addition of Sherry and Kierstan into their lives! Boy did those two make me laugh!

In Point of Retreat, Layken and Will are finally living their HEA after all the heartache they have endured in their young lives. But Layken begins to feel the pressure when she finds Will and his ex girlfriend having a conversation in his room. Without waiting for an explanation Layken begins to question if Will truly loves her...

The way Layken freaked out over the situation got on my nerves, I'm not going to lie! I felt like Colleen was just adding drama for drama's sake. Perhaps it's because she wasn't a seasoned writer at that point? That's my guess. I thought the way Layken behaved following this was unreasonable (she acted as if he cheated on her) and wanted to go through the book and strangle her. For this reason, I have the book 4.5 stars instead of 5. The emotion was there, the love was there, and everything one expects from a Colleen Hoover book was there, but this annoyed me so much that I just couldn't love it.

For all it's worth, Point of Retreat is still a strong novel and I certainly won't forget Will and Layken. They are two characters who will forever be in my heart. I loved their journey even though it was an emotional one, and praise Colleen for her ability to touch her readers to the core. If you haven't read this one yet, I recommend it.
