I read this book because I have heard phenomenal things about this series. I was warned before starting that the first book is one of the weakest in the series but that it was important, and worth it, to read this book before continuing in the series.

Frankly, yeah, this book was hard to get through. It introduces an interesting world and characters and masterfully employs the use of an unreliable narrator (which was a lot of fun and continues to be throughout the series). That said, it is very slow... glacially slow. If I were to go back and read the book now (having read the rest of the series), I suspect would enjoy it much more, but the first time is rough.

It's a short book and picks up near the end, it's just not my favourite. It is absolutely worth reading if only to read the rest of the series!
