I loved this book. The author conveys the sense of claustrophobia on the island so well and the fear that controls all its inhabitants.

Esta is such a sympathetic narrator - my heart broke for her, and for all the other characters who, despite their actions, were ultimately controlled by the main antagonist.

What makes this book so impactful is that it’s not all that different to reality - see Keep Sweet & Obey!

I wish there had been slightly more sightings and details of the seawomen and Cal, but the fleeting glimpses only added to the power of the story.
