Fevered Star picks up immediately after the ending of Black Sun. The POV characters are scattered across the Meridian and reeling from the events of book 1. My favourite aspect of this book is the worldbuilding. Rebecca Roanhorse introduced a lot of new exciting elements while also revealing the history of the continent and exploring new cities. We learn more about magic and gods and I loved it! I also enjoyed the new dynamics and unlikely alliances between the characters.

There are a few things I’m confused about or didn’t like, but overall I enjoyed this. I was expecting a bit more from specific parts of the book that felt rushed, and the second half of the book feels like it exists just to set up book 3. However, Fevered Star puts some interesting pieces into play for what will hopefully be an epic finale in the next book.

I’m interested to know what will happen to Naranpa, Serapio and Xiala. They’re all powerful characters navigating a world that doesn’t truly know them, that underestimates them or wants to use them. I hope the next book gives us deeper characterization along with more amazing worldbuilding, and I’m excited to know how this trilogy ends.
