Anya's Ghost by Vera Brosgol
2.0
dark mysterious fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

Quick Opinion ๐Ÿ’ญ: Satisfying story, but a little too juvenile

Why I Read This ๐Ÿ“Œ: Recommended by my Mom

My Summary ๐Ÿ“: After falling down a well, Anya meets a ghost who seems eager to help improve her life. At first, the unexpected friendship offers comfort, but when Anya uncovers the dark truth behind her ghostly companionโ€™s past, the haunting becomes harder to escape.

My Review ๐Ÿ‘ป:  The plot was genuinely satisfying, and I appreciated the mystery twist that added depth to the story. The graphic novel format makes it an accessible, fast-paced read, but the tone felt too juvenile for a YA audience; more so middle-grade. While I understand the appeal for younger readers, the writing lacked the nuance I usually look for in higher-rated YA titles. By the end, the ghost character felt more irritating than intriguing, which made the final act drag. That said, readers looking for a quick, entertaining graphic novel with eerie vibes might still enjoy this one.
