The pairing here was interesting - the estranged stepsister who circled around the outside of her sister's friend group and one of those friends. It's not childhood friends to lovers, and it's not enemies to lovers, but there's elements of both those tropes in there. No one in the novel has their shit together, and most of them will down a glass of wine at the first hint of experiencing a feeling (which is certainly not the most healthy relationship to alcohol, but it's not presented as a problem, so keep that in mind if you're sensitive to that). Overall, though, it's queer and messy and interesting. You could write a pretty cool essay about the symbolism of lavender and water in the novel, too. The men are all lousy, from mildly (Grant) to extremely (Spencer), and dating men is presented as the clearly inferior option, which outside the admittedly funny "men are trash" joke queer women like to tell, is a little trite.
