Well-written and well-researched, but it feels like a bunch of advertising copy versions of research paper abstracts strung together loosely. It's also a conclusion in search of evidence, and kind of a jumbled narrative at that. At times Alter seems to be arguing that technology is addictive in itself, and other times he seems to be threading a more nuanced argument about human behavior and bad habits. It's not a bad book, I just wonder what it's for.
