Her Highlander by Alice Wilde

4.0

Roan is the first of our snow leopards to head home to try to pull together an army to help in the fight against Damien. Once the group gets to his home, they are brought before the laird. The laird turns out to be his brother in law. They find out that the Fae have been causing issues with their harvests, animals, etc. since there is no living male heir to the Clan Artair. In order to prove he is this heir, he's forced to walk to thru the land of the Fae. Roan insists on taking Annalise with him. Once past the portal, they are met by one of the Fae and taken to the High Court. As the Clan Artair heir, he has safe passage, but there are only 2 options for Annalise. She can remain a part of the Fae Court until the end of her human life or she can marry Roan in a Fae ceremony. She chooses the ceremony in order to get back to the others and to save her people and kingdom. Together Roan and Annalise must get the approval of his claim to be married & become the true laird & lady, but the wedding night has to witnessed. How do you prove you are no longer a maiden when there's a threat from Damien & you can't actually consummate the marriage?

This one gives you a snippet of the backstory of Roan at the very beginning. I thought there could have been a bit more about what brought Roan to Damien's attention, which is why I rated it at 4 stars. Book 2 also ends in a cliffhanger.
