For some reason, this collection of Kelly Link’s short stories worked for me far better than Magic for Beginners. Her unique mix of surrealism and matter of fact prose worked for me a lot more with these child protagonists. “The Surfer” was probably my favorite, but there wasn’t a completely weak link (ha) in the entire collection.
