Quiet in Her Bones by Nalini Singh
5.0

Equal parts Desperate Housewives, Vertigo, and maybe even a hint of a David Lynch film? I really enjoyed this delving into a murder in a wealthy enclave through the eyes of the child of (wealthy) immigrants, and even more, it opened me up to the whole new world of Auckland, New Zealand.

Further, I really enjoyed that this book knew what it was. A thriller. Often times POC writers are stuck in the ethnic/world lit genre when all you really want is to have more and diverse voices in genre fiction! Nalini Singh nails it here. She inflects and deepens a common genre piece with Indian nuance and as a POC reader, I loved having those details, down to the transliterated Hindi. I really look forward to reading more thrillers by Ms. Singh!

One more thing. This is a COZY mystery. The world Ms. Singh builds is one of comfort. This is the sort of read you can tuck into on a rainy afternoon and just let it wrap itself around you.
