Act of Mercy by Mandy M. Roth

2.0

The plot is great. It’s what drew me into the book. The main character is a technical genius woman doctor. Clearly knows what she’s doing and is very crafty to get what she needs done to work. She’s working in a mysterious scientific organization when she sees a test subject being beaten by a guard, more so than what’s usually acceptable. She starts to notice more violence in many aspects of their test subjects and wants to team up with another PI organization for supernaturals. There’s a test subject who tells her how to call it in and so she does.
The team of paranormals have been working together for centuries and each have their own specialty. When the doctor calls in, the man who answers is attracted to her voice. They end up meeting up and breaking the test subjects out together, bringing mayhem and violence to the villains. And the woman is an integral part of getting into the facility.
Which, all in all is great! But- everything else about this book was just bad.

Let’s reference when I said the Male lead is attracted to her voice. Very first chapter, first page even, there’s already crudeness and inappropriate comments being made and described as the male takes the phone call. Even so much so to trying to get her to agree to anal probing even though she clearly needs help. He’s only horny.
Ultra macho men who are ginormous. All cavemen with supernatural abilities. Every SINGLE man is a manwhore. They sleep with everything in sight. Even when they are under a time crunch to save the test subjects, they hit a cafe where they pick up women's phone numbers. To which the author has a strange woman grab the male lead’s erect penis- in a cafe- with lots of other people around. He's erect because he smells his mate. And it’s just weird.
Awful depictions of sex. Constantly. Every time there's any "sexy" time, I just questioned why I was reading the book. Here are a few quotes from the book.
"He could already smell her cream"
