Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff
5.0
I kept putting this off even though I was desperate to read it because I was scared of how this amazing series would end. Would it live up to the expectations? Would it drive me insane with everything I wasn’t ready to feel and experience? Would I love and loathe Kristoff for putting me through this confuckulating emotional journey? Yes, yes, and fuck yes.
Well gentlefriends, here we are. The story is over and I’m... still shook by everything that unfolded. I *literally* just finished the book and just finished weeping at having to say goodbye to this world and these characters that I grew so fond of. I’m not sure I can formulate a half-decent review right now and honestly my mind is scrambling trying to figure out how to review this without spoilers?(??) but I will say: holy shit, this was an INCREDIBLE ride.
I loved how Kristoff brought everything together. I loved that despite the heartbreak and the anger I felt towards the treatment of certain characters, there were still so many moments that had me genuinely chuckling out loud. I loved how Kristoff took the piss out of his own writing and broke the fourth wall. Sure, it was surprising and a little weird at first but I’d certainly not expect anything different or less from him anyway
