Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding
3.0

I was in a bit of a reading slump and wanted something quick and light to get me out of it — I read this in three days so it definitely did the trick.

It’s a funny book, but it’s actually one of the rare cases where the movie is better in my opinion. There were a whole lot of jokes in the book that required a level of familiarity with 1990s Britain and its celebrities/TV shows that I just do not have. The weight stuff didn’t really bother me (even though it is constant); I think you just have to take it as a product of its time. She also talks regularly about smoking upwards of 30 cigarettes a day, and our views have changed on that too! It’s okay!

What it really made me want to do was reread the Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series because you can tell how much they were influenced by Bridget and I remember LOVING them as a teenager.
