I never promised to be his soldier—his ally, as he would have preferred to call me. But I had somehow become that.

Huh, I said at the beginning — even before reading it — that this book was going to enchant me, and on some level it did. Greek mythology is not new to me, but I always enjoy reading books about it, and I have to say that I enjoyed it immensely this time as well.

Demeter was never particularly my favourite goddess, I loved her as much as I could, but she never really stood out from the others. But now this book has shown how important she was (and still is) to the world, mistress of life and death, light and darkness at the same time. In short, I fell in love with her very much. The other gods didn't particularly impress me—at least not in this book, but there wasn't that much talk about them either. Artemis, Nemesis, Hecate, and Hestia are still my favourite goddesses.

The plot was easy to follow and well structured, the events followed each other nicely, there were no empty parts. I liked the wording, although in some places I felt it was too often to repeat the same thing in different words. The pace was a little slower than I would have liked, but other than that, I can't relate to anything else, because the author faithfully gave back what I needed.
Honestly, it's so hard to write a review of a book when I knew in advance what was going to happen, so there wasn't any unexpected twists and turns involved, but even when I think back on it, I don't feel any negative feelings. I loved it and would like to read it again in the future.

I definitely recommend it to all Greek mythology and Percy Jackson fans who want something a little darker.
